Xiangzi Temple Street
Xi'an's Lane Temple Street, or Xiangzi Temple Street, is a street with a long history and full of cultural characteristics.
Located in Beilin District of Xi'an, Xiangzimiao Street is 521 meters long, starting from South Street in the east and ending at the south entrance of Dachajia Lane in the west. The street was named after Xiangzimiao Temple and existed at the latest in the Ming Dynasty, when the street east of Xiangzimiao Temple was called Big Xiangzimiao Street and the street southwest of it was called Small Xiangzimiao Street.
The naming of Xiangzi Temple Street is related to Xiangzi Temple, which means Han Xiangzi, the nephew of Han Yu, a great writer of the Tang Dynasty, and one of the Eight Immortals of Taoism. The history of Xiangzi Temple Street can be traced back to the Song and Yuan Dynasties. Xiangzi Temple may have originated from the Song and Yuan Dynasties, but it was destroyed in the war during the Jin and Yuan Dynasties, and the present pattern is set in the Ming Dynasty. From the end of Ming Dynasty to the beginning of the Republic of China, Xiangzi Temple has been in full bloom, and then after the war, its halls were either occupied or destroyed.
Xiangzi Temple Street is famous for its profound historical and cultural background. Xiangzi Temple is the birthplace of Xiangzi culture in the country. Legend has it that it was once the place where Han Xiangzi lived and practiced, leaving behind a lot of historical and cultural stories related to him. Xiangzi Temple Street is not only a religious place, but also an important place for tourists to experience the history and culture of Xi'an.
While preserving the historical features of Xiangzi Temple Street, the surrounding neighborhoods are also becoming more and more trendy. Defu Alley, adjacent to Xiangzimiao, was once the earliest coffee bar street in the five northwestern provinces (regions), and was a fashionable landmark for trendy consumption in Xi'an at that time. Nowadays, Defu Alley has been remodeled and has become a hot spot for young people, gathering all kinds of “treasure stores”, such as coffee houses, bars, teahouses, etc., which are full of petty feelings!
Visitors can experience the ancient Xiangzi Temple on Xiangzi Temple Street, listen to the myths and legends of Han Xiangzi, one of the Eight Immortals, and feel the history and culture of old Xi'an. At the same time, they can also explore all kinds of specialty stores in Defu Alley and enjoy the leisure life in the modern city.
Xiangzi Temple Street is a unique location in Xi'an that combines tradition and modernity, history and trends, for both tourists interested in history and culture and young people seeking a modern leisure experience.
